Where My Chef Journey Began
My culinary journey began at the tender age of three, when I first discovered my passion for cooking. I attended classes, tried competitions, and hosted cooking-themed birthday parties. By high school, I was fully immersed in the culinary world, attending a technical high school . I also worked in a local bakery to gain hands-on experience. My dedication led me to the Culinary Institute of America, where I earned a Bachelor’s in Business Management with pastry. I further honed my skills by tutoring fellow students, baking bread on weekends, and working in local coffee shops.
After graduating, I embarked on an exciting career path, starting with the Walt Disney Company in Florida. My journey took me from the Grand Floridian Hotel to the esteemed pastry team at Victoria & Albert’s, where I refined my craft for two years. Seeking new challenges, I transitioned to Disney’s Riviera Resort as a dessert plater for Topolino’s Terrace. However, after three intense years filled with long hours, holidays, and receiving my Master’s in Business Analytics, I felt it was time for a change.
My boyfriend and I returned to New York, where I began a new chapter—creating a food blog that shares my professional baking tips and explores Albanian cuisine, inspired by his family’s rich culinary traditions.
Finding Connection in Embracing Albanian Cuisine
I first met my partner Jarmande nearly four years ago. I was instantly drawn not just to his warmth and kindness but also to the rich tapestry of his Albanian heritage. His family immigrated to the United States 15 years ago, bringing with them cherished traditions, vibrant flavors, and an incredible passion for their culture. As I fell in love with Jarmande, I realized that embracing Albanian Cuisine was essential not only to deepen our connection but also to honor the sacrifices his family made for a new life. Through cooking and sharing meals, I wanted to show my respect and appreciation for their roots.
This past year, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Albania, and it was a transformative experience. The country’s breathtaking landscapes, from the stunning mountains to the crystal-clear coastline, captivated me. But it was the heart of Albanian culture that truly resonated with me—the food. I am awestruck by the emphasis on fresh ingredients and traditional cooking methods, often passed down through generations. Watching Jarmande’s family prepare meals together was a beautiful reminder of the importance of family bonds and culinary traditions. It inspired me to bring those flavors into our own home and create a space where his heritage is celebrated.
Discovering Tradition
Embracing Albanian cuisine has become more than just cooking; it’s a journey of love and connection. Each dish tells a story, filled with history and a sense of belonging. As I learn to prepare traditional recipes, I feel like I’m weaving Jarmande’s family legacy into our life together. It’s a delicious adventure, one that not only nourishes our bodies but also strengthens our hearts. I’m excited to continue exploring this vibrant culinary world, honoring his family’s past while creating new memories in our future.
Hi, I would love to hear from you if you have embraced Albanian cuisine or another cuisine. I hope to share my journey and you find insight in it. Please feel free to also share your story here!
I have fallen in love with Albania after a trip there this past summer. We walked to the central square in Fier to watch European football on a GIANT outdoor screen with hundreds of our new-found Albanian friends. We all had the universal language of love for sport and cheering for our favorite athletes. Amazing trip and can’t wait for a return trip!
